REVIEW: Maybelline Rebel Bouquet Lipstick in REB 02

Last month I had gone to Chennai and I met up with Harine of CrazyforCosmetics. We did a shoot together (more details on that later) and then we went to meet Sindhu. It was so much fun to hang out with fellow bloggers but more importantly fellow makeup lovers. When we met up we went hunting for the newly launched Maybelline Rebel Bouquet Lipsticks and were a bit disappointed that we couldn’t find in the mall that we were at. Soon after I got back to Bangalore I saw that it was available on Nykaa and without a second thought I ordered it (along with a whole bunch of other things).

The packaging is similar to the Coloursensational range with a semi transparent cover that is the colour of the lipstick bullet. This makes it pretty easy to locate. When I was looking at these online I went merely by the pictures that were shown on Nykaa. REB 02 looked like a hot pink and I decided to go for it. There is a slight difference in the colour of the packaging and the colour of the actual bullet.

It is a sturdy tube and when twisted the lipstick goes right into the tube and nothing peeks out. The colour is absolutely gorgeous. It is the colour of roses in summer. You know those pretty baby roses that you see blooming. It looks like it might be too bright and bold when you look at the bullet, however once on the lips it looks gorgeous and not OTT at all. One swipe gives a stain type of colour. Two swipes gives you complete coverage. The pigmentation is even and the lipstick goes on the lips very smoothly. I have dry lips and so I need to use balm before I apply any lipstick.

I would call the finish as a satin finish. It feels smooth but after a while it does feel a bit sticky. That could because of the heat as well. It doesn’t dry matte. It retains that slightly creamy look. Once it has set there is very little transference onto cups or cheeks ;) If you want a matte look, then set it with powder. My lips do feel a bit dry over time, but nothing that a little balm can’t fix.

I have not had any issue with it bleeding. It lasted for more than 4 hours with one meal and a milkshake and even a nap.(yes I achieve a lot in 4 hours as you can see). It starts to fade once you eat and looks like a stain. To completely remove the colour you will need makeup remover.

Transfer onto a glass.

This is how much it transfer onto my hand.

I love how it really brightens my face and makes me look glowy. I will do a look using this. I have been wearing this to work every day now. Yes, it is wearable to work. I work in a small office with 6 guys and just 2 women, but I haven’t gotten any weird stares from the guys because of this lipstick. That itself is enough to tell me that this is work appropriate. I feel it is definitely a summer day time colour. I don’t see myself wearing this in the evening.

After a 2-3 hours of wear.

The one con would be the price. I mean 450INR is pretty steep for Maybelline especially considering the ColorShow range. Obviously good quality is available even at lower prices. So why make this so much more? The other thing is that it isn’t really a unique colour. My Streetwear lipstick in Pink Persuasion could totally be a dupe for this in terms of the colour.

Despite the cons, I have found myself reaching for this every day in the past 10 days. I just love it!!

What I like about the product.
  • The colour. Love love it!
  • The packagaing
  • The longevity on my lips.
  • The lack of transference.
  • The pigmentation

What I don’t like
  • The price
  • The colour isn’t unique.

So have you guys tried any lipsticks from this range? DO let me know what you think of this range in the comments section below.
