5 tips for spring skincare

Is the change in weather confusing your skin?? Well you aren't the only one!!

While the rest of the world is talking about spring collections and the arrival of warmer weather after the harsh winters, Bangalore seems to have skipped spring altogether and is spiralling towards a hot summer already. It is just February and I seem to forget that unless I look at the calendar. At the same time there are a few days when there is still a dry nip in the air and this leaves my skin feeling all confused (pretty much like my state of mind most days).
So here are my top 5 skincare tips to handle the change in weather.

Skincare Tips for the Spring

1. Make both Body butter and lotions your best friend.
Body butters are my best friend in the winters but I don't have dry skin in general. So on the days when my skin feels a bit dry and the air feels a bit chilly, I still use a body butter. For the other days I use a light lotion. Especially the days that I use a body scrub, I make sure I use a body butter to restore any hydration that may have been lost. I am currently alternating between The Body Shop Moringa Body butter and the Parachute Advansed Body Lotion with coconut milk.

2. Love your lipbalm
My lips are the first part to react to the cold, so every night I slather on regular petroleum jelly. It is my favourite lip balm and I find that it works really well to hydrate my lips overnight, or even during the day when I am not wearing any lipstick. I love regular Vaseline lip balm or petroleum jelly for this. Nothing fancy shmancy for me.

3. Use Essential oils.
Essentials oils have become a huge part of my skincare/ bodycare routine. I love mixing it with my lotions. It definitely helps in retaining the effect of the lotion for a longer period without the heavy feeling that a body butter can give. Alternatively I add a few drops in my bath water once in a while and have a nice long shower. I like using the Rosehip oil by Soulflower.

4. Mask your face.
So I have phases where I use face masks very religiously and then I forget about them for a few weeks, or laziness takes over (usually the latter). However when I do use a face mask, I never use the same one continuously. I alternate between a clay based one and a hydrating one and I usually use them on two consecutive days so that I can get the best of both worlds. Currently I am loving the Just Herbs Pimple care face pack and a collagen face mask that I got from Abu Dhabi which is super hydrating. It is some Korean brand so I have no idea what the name is.

5. Flavour the water.
I am so bad at keeping myself hydrated. Like so so bad. I always forget to drink water. In fact as I type this I realise I should probably go and myself a glass of water. *takes a 2 minute water break*
Now to overcome this I flavour my water. I like using mint leaves in cold water, I mean room temperature. I can't drink cold water because I just end up getting a sore throat. I also drink a lot of hot water. I really like hot water so I generally add some jeera or ajwain to the hot water. Occasionally I will have honey added. This way I have some extra flavour and extra nutrients added into the water. Plus honey is considered to be a superfood and the benefits of it are numerous.
