Kurtas for work and more

The Indian version of a LBD

Kurtas are one of the most versatile pieces of clothing that I own and I love that they can be paired with practically anything from jeans to leggings to skirts. They can transition from a day time look to a night time outfit seamlessly and in a matter of minutes. Biba has many kurtas for women and I have chosen 3 options to show you how you can style them differently for work and other occasions.

1. Let’s say Cheers

I know that fall isn't technically a season in India, but fall colours are the best for an evening out. Deep purples, wines and burgundy is my go-to option for that perfect work to drinks transition.
This Wine kurta has a straight cut that makes it easy to pair with either leggings or formal pants. For work, pair it with small stud earrings in gold, nude pumps, and a thin bracelet. The makeup can be kept minimal with only mascara, peach lipstick and some concealer.
To amp things up for the evening, trade your studs for a pair of hoops, sport a side fishtail braid and add a pair of kitten heels, so that you are comfortable to dance the night away. In the makeup department, add a flick eyeliner, more mascara, and some bronzer. To add some oomph, style this with faux leather jeggings or skinny jeans.

2. Of weddings and more.

Have you ever been in a situation where you have had to run from work directly to a wedding? The idea of wearing something wedding worthy to work makes your cringe, yet you don’t want to be Plain Jane at the wedding. We’ve all been there. This yellow kurta has some light embroidery around the neckline which is simple enough to wear to work. Pair with a light coloured leggings and minimal gold jewellery for a more formal look.
To jazz things up for the evening, swap out the leggings for a pair of culottes or a colour blocked skirt, if you are feeling experimental. Add a lehariya dupatta, some pretty jhootis and your favourite jhumkas. Swipe a bright pink or fuschia lipstick, draw on a winged eyeliner and added some coloured bangles. Don’t forget to carry a stone work clutch with some essentials in it to keep you going through the night.

3. Shopping the sales

Don’t wait for the weekend to shop the sales. Make a plan and attack 1 or 2 stores every evening during the week. Store closing time is the best time to shop because it is so peaceful.
I love wearing kurtas to go shopping in, because unlike a shirt, there is no hassle of having to unbutton and rebutton every single time you are in the trial room. This blue kurta works well as a kurta for work as well as a kurta for the evening. Opt for a pair of trousers that are comfortable to walk around in and of course flats. Don’t forget to carry a huge shopping bag and of course your cards.

So there you go, 3 kurtas keeping you comfortable at work and after work as well. I love how versatile kurtas can be. What about you?
